The Mind Body Connection
The mind body connection is a well known phrase in hypnotherapy and alternative medicine circles – but does it exist in reality? Can thinking differently actually affect the processes going on in your body? And if changing your mind does have beneficial effects then why aren’t we all doing it?
Hypnotherapy to think yourself better?
So does this mysterious phenomena actually exist, can you actually think yourself better?
Opinion is divided on this subject. Many therapists have known for a long time that what you think about does have an effect on your emotions and moods, your state of mind. And hypnotherapy can easily change your state of mind.
For example if you are feeling down and miserable and you go out for a walk in the fresh air, generally you will begin to feel more alive and upbeat.
Just the act of physically moving about in a different environment has made your mood change. Should you meet someone and start chatting then you may find your mood improving even more as you interact with another human being. And as your mood changes so do your energy levels.
So you have changed the way you think and feel just by moving your body from being stationary to carrying out a simple activity like walking.
What else can hypnotherapy help with?
Many hypnotherapists have been able to help clients with issues such as pain control for a long time now. Simply using hypnosis to reduce the pain and sometimes remove it altogether. There are some hypnotherapists that induce anaesthesia in their clients so that they can undergo dental treatment without the use of general or local anaesthetics.
Other uses that utilise the mind body effect are less dramatic, simple things like helping clients to stop smoking, taking away the cravings that are very real to the smoker, but are in essence all in the mind.
Weight control is another common issue successfully dealt with using hypnosis. Once the mind thinks in a different way the old beliefs about food drop away to be replaced with more useful ones. The result is a change in body weight, bought about by simply changing the way you think about the food you eat.
Hypnotherapy for Cancer Care.
There have been some radical changes in the medical treatment of cancer lately, survival rates are now much higher than they once were. Now it is also possible to use hypnosis to help cancer patients as well.
Hypnosis cannot cure cancer, but it can help to change your mindset, to help you to be much more positive, to help you put this disease into perspective, to focus on getting better.
In fact if you take the word disease and break it down it becomes a DIS – EASE. Your mind/body is not at ease with itself.
There are stories of cancer patients refusing to accept their cancer. Many of these people have gone into remission and beaten their cancer.
How did they do it? By simply changing their lifestyle and removing all the stress and worry from their lives. By watching comedy films all day to lift their mood. They only focussed on positive feelings and emotions. They changed the way they thought about cancer and refused to let it get the better of them.
If that is not mind over matter then I don’t know what is!
And if they can do that then there must be a connection between the mind and body!
Hypnotherapy for almost anything.
So we know that whilst you can’t directly change physical symptoms with hypnosis – like heal a broken bone for example – you can affect the way that you think, allowing your mind to make the changes you need in your body.
